Blackpool Football Therapy (BFT) – Code of Conduct (16+)

1. Introduction

Blackpool Football Therapy (BFT) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where football is used to improve mental and physical wellbeing.

This Code of Conduct aligns with The FA Respect framework and applies to all participants, including players, session attendees, team members, and anyone representing BFT.

2. Core Values

All members of BFT are expected to uphold:

Inclusivity
Safety
Fair Play
Mental Health Awareness

3. Respect & Behaviour

All participants must:

Show respect to teammates, opponents, session leads, managers, referees, and volunteers at all times.

Not engage in abusive, threatening, or discriminatory language or behaviour.

Accept decisions made by referees, session leads, and managers without dissent.

Avoid confrontation and allow staff to manage disputes.

4. Mental Health Commitment

Recognise that BFT is a mental health-focused environment.

Be mindful that others may be experiencing challenges.

Avoid behaviour that may trigger, intimidate, or distress others.

Support fellow participants and promote a positive atmosphere.

If feeling overwhelmed, step away and speak to a session lead or manager.

5. Conduct During Sessions & Matches

Play in a controlled, safe, and respectful manner.

Slide tackles are NOT permitted in any BFT sessions or 11-a-side matches unless explicitly authorised by staff.

Dangerous, reckless, or overly aggressive play will result in removal.

Follow all instructions given by session leads, managers, and match officials.

6. Safety & Welfare

Wear appropriate football kit and footwear.

Do not attend under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Report injuries, concerns, or welfare issues immediately.

Take responsibility for your own safety and that of others.

7. Inclusivity & Equality

BFT operates a zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination of any kind, including:

Race
Gender
Sexual orientation
Religion
Disability
Mental health status

All participants must contribute to a welcoming and supportive environment.

8. Roles & Responsibilities

Players / Participants

Adhere to this Code of Conduct at all times.

Respect others and play fairly.

Support the mental health ethos of BFT.

Session Leads

Ensure sessions are safe, inclusive, and well-managed.

Address inappropriate behaviour promptly.

Support participant wellbeing.

Team Managers (11-a-side)

Promote FA Respect standards during matches.

Manage player behaviour on and off the pitch.

Liaise with league officials where required.

BFT Committee

Oversee governance and uphold club standards.

Handle disciplinary matters fairly and consistently.

Ensure alignment with FA and safeguarding guidelines.

9. Behaviour Outside of Play

Represent BFT positively at all times, including on social media.

Respect facilities, equipment, and venues.

Communicate attendance and availability responsibly.

10. Disciplinary Action

Breaches of this Code of Conduct may result in:

Verbal warning

Removal from session or match

Temporary suspension

Permanent exclusion (serious or repeated breaches)

Serious misconduct may also be reported in line with FA regulations where applicable.

11. Registration & Agreement

By registering with Blackpool Football Therapy (BFT), attending sessions, or representing the club in any capacity, all participants automatically agree to:

Abide by this Code of Conduct in full.

Uphold The FA Respect principles where applicable.

Support and contribute to the mental health-focused ethos of BFT.

Follow all guidance issued by session leads, team managers, and the BFT committee.

Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action as outlined above.
